Russia is planning to introduce a requirement for labor migrants and long-term visitors to purchase a mobile phone, as reported by infohub.kz.
Igor Zubov, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia, announced this at a meeting of the Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs.
"Every migrant who comes here, especially for work or long-term, will be required to buy a phone upon registration. The phone will contain their electronic profile, and we will know the location of every migrant. They will not be able to move from one locality to another uncontrollably or change their place of stay. This will be the foundation," Zubov emphasized.
The official also noted that the phone could be used to send notifications about expired documents or summons to specific locations.
