Over 1 Million Kazakhs Receive Social Payments from State Fund

Since the beginning of the year, the State Social Insurance Fund (SSIF) has transferred nearly 464.7 billion tenge in social assistance to over one million Kazakh citizens. As of August 1, 2026, the fund's assets reached 1.47 billion tenge, reports infohub.kz.

In the second quarter of 2026, the SSIF received 506.5 billion tenge in social contributions. These were paid by 6.5 million participants of the compulsory social insurance system, which accounts for 60.57% of the country's employed population.

The document notes that starting January 1, 2026, benefits for loss of working capacity and loss of breadwinner were indexed by 10%.

The largest share of SSIF payments went to support families with children, pregnant women, and the unemployed. In total, over 1 million people received payments from the fund.

The largest amount was transferred to those caring for a child up to 1.5 years old – 208.9 billion tenge was paid to 462,700 people (average amount: 84,605 tenge).

For maternity and childbirth payments, the fund allocated 106 billion tenge to 97,400 people, with an average check of 1,214,021 tenge.

Unemployment benefits totaling 88.1 billion tenge were received by 287,400 people, with an average amount of 102,384 tenge.

Assistance for loss of working capacity amounted to 35.1 billion tenge for 95,200 people (average: 55,286 tenge), and for loss of breadwinner – 26.5 billion tenge for 67,300 people (average: 56,273 tenge).

The Ministry of Labor also provided data on the income replacement ratio of social benefits. Relative to the average monthly wage in the country (461,486 tenge in Q1 2026), maternity benefits replace 253.1% of income. For unemployment, this figure is 20.4%, for loss of breadwinner – 17.2%, for loss of working capacity – 16.9%, and for childcare up to 1.5 years – 16.4%.

Relative to the average monthly income used for calculating benefits (314,993 tenge as of August 1, 2026), the replacement ratio for maternity reaches 427.1%, for unemployment – 46.8%, for childcare – 43.7%, for loss of working capacity – 37.6%, and for loss of breadwinner – 36.8%.
