A resident of the Aktobe region lost 1 million tenge after a party with an acquaintance. The money was transferred via a banking app, reports infohub.kz.
In the Aktobe region, a 41-year-old man was suspected of stealing 1 million tenge from an acquaintance's account. According to police, he transferred the money to himself during a joint party using the victim's smartphone.
As reported on the Ministry of Internal Affairs website, while the phone's owner was talking to other guests, the suspect quietly took the device, opened the banking app, and transferred the funds to his own account.
The victim discovered the missing money only a few days later when checking his transaction history and then contacted the police.
The suspect was soon identified and taken to the police station.
"During questioning, he confessed and explained that he had already spent the stolen money on personal needs," police said.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the theft.
Police reminded that even among acquaintances, one should not leave a phone unattended or hand it over to strangers.
"A modern smartphone is not just a means of communication but also access to your bank accounts. A few seconds of inattention can be very costly, and the desire to profit from someone else's money inevitably leads not to gain but to criminal liability," the department noted.
