The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed that far-right political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Louisiana. This was reported by infohub.kz.
In a statement released on Friday, a DHS spokesperson said that Yiannopoulos was arrested on Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). The spokesperson stated that Yiannopoulos legally entered the country in May 2019, but "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation's laws."
An immigration judge issued a final order of removal for Yiannopoulos on July 22 after he failed to appear for his immigration hearing. The DHS spokesperson added: "He will remain in ICE custody pending removal. This administration is working diligently to ensure that aliens in our country illegally can no longer fly unless it is out of our country to self-deport."
As of Friday afternoon, Yiannopoulos was listed in ICE's online detainee database as being in "ICE Custody." The database indicates he was born in the United Kingdom but does not disclose additional details, including his place of detention.
This statement came after multiple outlets reported on Friday that Yiannopoulos had been detained in Louisiana. Fox News reported that he is currently held in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Yiannopoulos, a former editor of Breitbart News, previously served as an intern for former U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene in 2022 and worked on the 2024 White House campaign of Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. The reason for his presence in Louisiana is unclear, but Ye is scheduled to perform in New Orleans on Friday night.
Last year, Yiannopoulos expressed support for immigration enforcement in the U.S. on social media. In June 2025, he wrote: "California needs ICE checkpoints at supermarket entrances, gas stations, strip malls, intersections and government buildings, with on the spot deportation for anyone who can't prove they are in the US legally."
On Friday, far-right activist Laura Loomer, an ally of Donald Trump, claimed credit for Yiannopoulos's detention, stating she had previously reported him to ICE.
