Mitsubishi has officially unveiled the new generation of its iconic Pajero SUV. The model makes a comeback after a long hiatus, now positioned as the brand's flagship. Thailand will be the first market to receive the new vehicle, followed by Japan and Australia, with plans to expand to around 100 markets worldwide starting in fiscal year 2027, according to infohub.kz.
The new Pajero retains its classic off-road DNA: it rides on a rigid ladder frame, features an independent front suspension, and comes with Mitsubishi's signature Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel-drive system. The Super Select 4WD-II system, with four drive modes, ensures confident performance off the beaten path while offering the comfort expected in urban driving.
Mitsubishi has also made the Pajero more than just a rugged off-roader. Inside, there are two 14.3-inch displays, a three-row seven-seat layout, and higher-quality materials. The exterior design retains recognizable cues from previous Pajero generations.
Under the hood, the new Pajero is powered by a 2.4-liter diesel engine with a variable-geometry turbocharger, delivering a maximum torque of 480 Nm. The company has not yet disclosed the engine's power output. The engine is paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission with a sport mode.
The SUV has grown to 4920 mm in length, 1925 mm in width, and 1910 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2870 mm. Ground clearance is 230 mm, approach angle is 30.4 degrees, and departure angle is 25.8 degrees.
The Pajero first appeared in 1982 and, over four generations, has sold around 3.3 million units, gaining popularity in more than 170 countries and regions. Now, the Japanese automaker aims to combine the original formula with a new level of comfort and features.
"The updated Pajero has become even more refined. It is a premium SUV that drivers can rely on in any situation," said Keisuke Kishiura, President and Chief Operating Officer of Mitsubishi Motors.
