Three people were killed and 21 others injured in an explosion at a restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square in Moscow, according to infohub.kz.
Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee said a homemade explosive device was detonated in the capital the day before. The tragedy unfolded when an unidentified woman attempted to bring explosives into the establishment. A security guard, suspecting something amiss, blocked her path, likely preventing a much larger number of casualties.
The blast killed the guard, the female attacker, and one visitor. Twenty-one others were wounded. Investigative and search operations are currently underway to establish all circumstances of the incident.
According to Kommersant, a criminal case has been opened on charges of "terrorist act." One theory suggests the woman, who was delivering a box to guests, claimed it contained a gift. However, the guard insisted on inspecting it, and at that moment the explosion occurred. The bomb is believed to have been detonated remotely, and the courier likely was unaware of the package's contents.
The blast was equivalent to one kilogram of TNT and was packed with metal balls to maximize casualties. The explosion was so powerful that the courier was torn apart; her arm was found on the road 15 meters from the scene.
