Scammers are exploiting the hype surrounding the iPhone 18 launch, sending phishing emails and offering fake preorders, according to the website infohub.kz.
The report comes from RBC, citing the press service of Kaspersky Lab. According to the experts, one scheme takes the form of an email purporting to come from the Apple Store, notifying the recipient of an alleged iPhone 18 Ultra Pro preorder worth more than $1,000 that was paid for in cryptocurrency.
To cancel the "erroneous" purchase, the recipient is told to call a support line at the number provided. In reality, the call goes through to scammers, who may try to obtain bank card or account credentials.
In another scheme, the attackers send emails posing as the security service of an international payment system. They claim the account was accessed from an unknown device and that a transfer of more than $900 was requested for an iPhone 18 Pro preorder. To cancel the transaction, the user is likewise asked to call a fake support number.
Yet another variant involves offers to reserve a specific color of the iPhone 18 Pro in advance, with a promise of delivery on the day sales begin. Clicking a link in such an email may lead to a fraudulent website.
Anna Lazarycheva, a spam analyst at Kaspersky Lab, noted that attackers traditionally exploit users' interest in high-profile releases and popular devices.
Experts recommend checking the sender's address, avoiding suspicious links, looking up company contact details on official websites yourself, and never entering payment or account credentials on dubious resources.
