Mother of a minor teenager accused staff of pretrial detention center No. 71 in Taldykorgan of beating her son. According to the woman, the young man couldn't lift his head, and they refused to let in the ambulance she called. Kazakhstan's Criminal Executive System Committee (KUIS) stated that surveillance camera footage did not confirm the use of physical force, reports infohub.kz.
The teenager was transferred to the facility on July 20. The next day, his mother came for a visit and noticed signs of beatings. "He has a bump on his forehead, they beat him against the radiator. They damaged his kidneys. He can't even lift his head. The staff beat him," the woman said in a video message.
She claims that not only her son but other minors brought to the detention center on the same day were also affected. According to her, the beatings started even before they were placed in quarantine. The mother contacted the detention center's management but received no clear response. "I called an ambulance again, but they didn't let it in either. I called the police. They were allowed in, but I wasn't," she added.
KUIS reported that they immediately launched an internal investigation. "During the review of continuous video surveillance system recordings, information about the use of physical force by facility staff was not confirmed," the committee noted. They added that cameras operate around the clock, and real-time footage is transmitted to the committee and the prosecutor's office. Prosecutors from the Zhetysu region and a police investigative team arrived at the scene. The results of the investigation have not yet been announced.
Earlier, the editorial board reported a similar incident: police officers beat a resident of Astana and his brother after a Premier League match between Astana and Aktobe. The brothers went to the hospital, where they were diagnosed with a closed head injury and concussion. They later underwent forensic examination. According to the publication, the police refused to open a criminal case, limiting themselves to an internal investigation.
