A 24-year-old woman from Turkistan, who attempted to sell her newborn baby for 800,000 tenge via the social network VKontakte, has been given a suspended sentence. The woman explained her actions by her difficult financial situation, reports infohub.kz.
It turned out that while pregnant, the woman posted an ad in the community "balа asyrap algym keledi". She quickly found a buyer and agreed to sell her newborn daughter.
On March 28, 2026, the woman gave birth to a healthy child at the Pavlodar Regional Perinatal Center No. 1.
"Under the coordination of the city prosecutor's office, during operational-search activities and covert investigative actions, the criminal activity was documented. The buyer, acting within the framework of an operational exercise, was given money with pre-recorded serial numbers," the supervisory authority reported.
On March 31, 2026, in one of the apartments in Pavlodar, the convicted woman handed over the child along with documents to the buyer and received a reward of 100,000 tenge.
By the court's verdict, the woman was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Trafficking in Minors"). She was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment to be served in a medium-security correctional facility. However, the execution of the sentence was postponed for 5 years.
