Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has commented on the situation with defender Raul Asensio, who was arrested for drunk driving. The coach expressed his displeasure with the player's behavior, noting that such incidents damage the club's reputation, reports infohub.kz.
As previously reported, Asensio was fined a large sum and temporarily had his driver's license suspended after being stopped by police. In connection with the incident, the club initiated disciplinary proceedings, believing that the player's actions damaged Real Madrid's image.
At a press conference ahead of the match against Real Betis, Mourinho said: "When I arrived, I spoke with him about the past. Since then, I no longer discuss matters of behavior off the pitch. At Valdebebas, he is an exemplary professional. When he was healthy, nobody worked harder than him. Now he arrives first and leaves last."
The coach stressed that a Real Madrid player remains a representative of the club around the clock. "Whatever he does outside football, he still represents Real Madrid. Such things harm the club's reputation, which is untouchable. I'm not happy with him; everyone makes mistakes, but they come in different forms," Mourinho added.
The Portuguese also noted that while the investigation is ongoing, he considers Asensio a Real Madrid player. Furthermore, the defender is currently injured and will miss several more weeks.
