Following heavy rainfall in the Zhetisu region, mudflows have swept onto the Saryozek-Koktal highway, reports infohub.kz.

According to the press service of JSC "NC "KazAvtoZhol", intense rains fell in the Panfilov district of the Zhetisu region. Due to the mountainous terrain, strong surface runoff formed, carrying water, mud, and stones onto sections of the republican highway.

The effects of the elements were recorded on several road segments. The flows crossed the roadway, causing local erosion of shoulders and the roadbed, as well as damage to barrier elements. Near small bridges and culverts, mud and stone deposits formed, and some drainage ditches failed to cope with the volume of water.

Currently, the inflow of water from mountain slopes has ceased, there are no overflows across the roadway, the water level has dropped, and the situation has stabilized.

Road services promptly began eliminating the consequences. The work involves 11 road workers and 7 units of special equipment. Employees of DEU-90 and DEU-18 are clearing the roadway, shoulders, drainage ditches, small bridges, and culverts from mud and stone deposits. Work is underway to strengthen eroded sections of the roadbed and shoulders, restore drainage, and repair damaged barrier elements.

Specialists continue to inspect the highway, clarify the extent of damage, and assess the need for materials to fully restore individual sections. The road condition is under constant monitoring by road services.
