The death toll from a mudslide on the China-Nepal border has risen to 43, with 519 people still missing, according to infohub.kz.
According to Xinhua News Agency, a large-scale search and rescue operation is underway near the Gyirong checkpoint in China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The local emergency response headquarters reported that among the missing are 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries.
These figures were announced at a press conference for Chinese and foreign journalists. Media representatives also visited the disaster zone near the Gyirong checkpoint.
"More than 2,500 people and over 500 pieces of equipment have been deployed for rescue operations, over 1,000 drone flights have been conducted, and 5.43 tons of supplies have been airdropped," the headquarters said in a statement.
The authorities of Gyirong County have provided assistance to 1,720 residents of Nepal's border areas who found themselves on its territory.
Earlier, on August 26, reports emerged of a massive flood that left thousands missing. According to the latest data, at least 1,003 people have died in Nepal as a result of the disaster.
Additionally, three Kazakh women are being searched for in the disaster zone on the Nepal-China border.
