The alliance has developed three strategies in case of a direct military conflict with Russia, which form the basis of its ground combat concept, reports infohub.kz.
According to the German newspaper Bild, NATO's main task in such a scenario is to halt an offensive and weaken Russian forces. The first phase involves suppressing missile and drone attacks. To this end, it plans to use combat aircraft, missiles, and drones to destroy Russian missile systems. One of the primary targets could be the Kaliningrad region, where numerous air defense and missile systems are deployed.
Simultaneously, a so-called "autonomous zone" is to be established along the borders with Russia and Belarus. NATO troops would not be present there: drones and ground robotic systems would operate against advancing Russian forces.
In the next phase, NATO could strike targets inside Russia. Special forces would destroy military and logistics facilities, including airfields, defense plants, bridges, and railways used for troop and equipment movement. The alliance also counts on assistance from Russians who oppose Vladimir Putin.
Furthermore, NATO plans to create an "air bridge" to deliver drones and robots into Russia. They would attack airfields and military bases as well. However, the alliance emphasizes that it does not intend to occupy Russian territory. The goal is to push Russian forces back to the border.
Notably, NATO does not intend to keep these plans secret. According to military officials, deterrence only works if the adversary knows in advance what they will face in the event of an attack on an alliance member.
