NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has confirmed that the alliance received a warning from Russia about its readiness to use nuclear weapons if an attempt is made to isolate Kaliningrad. This was reported by infohub.kz.
According to TASS, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed receiving Russia's warning that it would use its entire arsenal, including nuclear weapons, if the alliance attempts to organize an air or sea blockade of Kaliningrad.
"I cannot disclose the contents, but yes, we received this letter and it is roughly what they told the media," Rutte said at a military-space conference in Brussels.
Earlier that day, it was reported that Russia's embassy in Ireland revealed under what circumstances the state is prepared to use nuclear weapons against NATO countries. The diplomatic mission then cited information that the alliance was allegedly preparing an air and sea blockade of Kaliningrad and the Kaliningrad region.
"There should be no misconceptions: Russia will be ready to use its entire arsenal, including nuclear weapons, to defend its territory if NATO countries try to isolate the Kaliningrad region from the rest of the country," the embassy said.
Recall that earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow does not intend to attack Europe. At the same time, he threatened European countries with a "short war" in the event of an attack on Russia.
