Three-time world boxing champion Nazym Kyzaybay has named her greatest rival in professional sports. On her path to the world stage, her main opponent was an older female boxer. The champion also shared moments when she lost to this rival and faced bad luck, reports infohub.kz.
Kyzaybay, who has been boxing for 17 years, admitted that she has yet to meet the right man. The athlete spoke about starting a family and expressed regret that men, in her view, are often indecisive, fail to keep their word, and are not willing to take risks for the woman they love.
"I am 33 years old, but I still haven't met my man. Some guys write to me, but I check them online and say 'no' — they have flashy looks and words, but I need someone who keeps his word and is willing to give his soul for you. I only think about starting a family occasionally. My parents, relatives, and Kazakhs in general keep saying: 'Age has come, when will you get married?' I believe that when the time comes and you meet your love, you shouldn't look back; starting a family doesn't depend on age. I have mostly focused on my career," the athlete said.
In an interview with the YouTube channel OylaPodcast, she also compared the weddings of foreigners and Kazakhs. The champion also commented on religious prohibitions, saying she cannot accept restrictions tied to traditions.
"We train together with Turkish boxers; they laugh at us, saying that you spend a lot on weddings. We've been to their weddings — everything is organized, unlike ours. 200-300 people come, they serve water, a few national dishes like sheker, and that's it. There's no lavish table, unnecessary spending, endless bride price, or useless things. They give the newlyweds gold or money, dance for a few hours, and leave. In our country, people take out loans, compete, and overspend. They, on the other hand, help the newlyweds buy a house," the athlete said.
She also named the woman who was her main rival. Once a competitor, now a friend.
"I have fought Zhaina Shekerbekova the most. How many times? At least seven times in competitions. She was born in 1989, a strong and hardworking athlete. At first, I lost to her. But I never considered her an enemy; I respect her. Some people hold grudges outside the ring. That's not me; I respect her because she is hardworking," Kyzaybay said.
