Residents of several major cities across Kazakhstan are being warned about a buildup of harmful substances in the atmosphere: unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in Almaty and three other cities on September 16, according to infohub.kz.
According to Kazhydromet, forecasters predict NMU in Almaty, and at night in Atyrau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, and Semey.
Specialists explain that unfavorable meteorological conditions arise from a combination of calm, light wind, fog, and temperature inversion. As a result, pollutants accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere, potentially worsening air quality.
Forecasters warn that during such periods the risk of negative health effects increases, especially for people with chronic diseases.
Air pollution levels are influenced by wind speed, precipitation, humidity, and air temperature.
Residents are advised to reduce time spent outdoors, especially near roads and other sources of pollution. Children and pregnant women are advised to avoid long walks.
People with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as those with allergies, are advised to carry necessary medications. Specialists recommend limiting physical activity outdoors and, if possible, moving exercise indoors.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that a storm warning was issued in Astana and 16 regions of the country. Rain with thunderstorms, strong wind, fog, and a dust storm are expected.
