The tragedy in Nepal continues to worsen: according to the latest government data, the death toll from the devastating floods has risen to 734, reports infohub.kz.
According to updated information, 2,498 people are listed as missing, including 589 foreign nationals. Rescue operations are ongoing in all affected areas. A total of 19,895 security personnel have been mobilized for search, rescue, and humanitarian efforts, including 8,399 soldiers from the Nepalese Army, 7,213 police officers, and 4,203 Armed Police Force personnel.
Authorities report that 8,186 people have been rescued so far. The scale of the disaster has created serious difficulties in identifying the deceased: unidentified bodies have been sent to 21 hospitals across the country for preservation and subsequent identification.
As a reminder, on August 26, a landslide occurred near the border crossing between China and Nepal, disrupting road traffic, communications, and electricity. Later, a massive flood triggered by an earthquake and subsequent landslide led to mass disappearances.
Yesterday, it became known about the search for a tourist from Kazakhstan who crossed the border from China to Nepal as part of a tourist group. Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the search for another Kazakhstani woman.
According to the latest data, rescue operations in Nepal had to be temporarily suspended due to a lake overflowing its banks.
