Israel prepared a plan for a new military operation against Iran that was to begin on October 10 and run for several days, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sought US backing to carry it out, infohub.kz reports.

The news was reported by Izvestia, citing a translation of a Financial Times article. According to the newspaper, in early October Israeli military officials drew up an operation plan that was to be launched on October 10 and carried out over several days.

The targets were to include Iran's nuclear facilities, power plants and other infrastructure.

However, US President Donald Trump signaled to the Israeli side that Washington would not take steps that could lead to escalation before the US midterm congressional elections on November 3, the publication reports.

At the same time, Financial Times sources suggest that discussion of a possible resumption of the military operation may be a way to pressure Tehran and secure concessions from the Iranian authorities.
