American streaming service Netflix plans to lay off about 1,000 employees worldwide — roughly 6% of its total workforce and the largest round of cuts since 2022, even as the service continues to earn billions and expand its projects, according to infohub.kz.

Last year, the company employed about 16,000 people. Now management has decided to review costs and staff allocation. About 1,000 people will be affected by the layoffs.

Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters told the team that the company is doing well and still expects to meet its financial plan for the year. At the same time, Netflix wants to focus on the areas it considers most promising.

And there is plenty for the service to work on. Beyond its usual films and series, it is developing video games, podcasts, and live sports broadcasts. In 2025, Netflix earned about $45.2 billion, and during this year it also raised subscription prices.

So even revenue growth and new projects do not guarantee that the company will expand its team. The media giant continues to look for new ways to make money, while cutting staff costs.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that due to GTA 6 leaks, game studio Rockstar is covering office windows and laying off its employees.
