A large wildfire near Reno, Nevada, has reached the outskirts of the city, forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate. This was reported by infohub.kz.
According to local authorities, about 42,000 people have been ordered to leave their homes immediately, and another 45,000 have been urged to be ready to evacuate. The fire was first reported on Saturday morning, and preliminary reports indicate that six people have been injured. Strong winds and unpredictable weather conditions have contributed to the fire's spread.
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has declared a state of emergency in Washoe County and ordered the National Guard to assist in firefighting and law enforcement efforts. "This is an active and rapidly evolving situation, and I urge everyone in the affected areas to remain vigilant and follow the direction of local officials," he said.
According to local officials, the fire was caused by human activity and was first reported at 11:15 local time (18:15 GMT) on Saturday. As of Sunday evening, the fire had burned approximately 10,500 acres and was 0% contained.
Local emergency services reported that around 13,700 homes are within the evacuation zone, and two shelters have been set up to accommodate displaced residents. Of the six injured, three are firefighters.
