Starting August 25, new requirements for electric scooters come into force in Almaty: they will be banned from sidewalks and pedestrian paths, reports infohub.kz.
Only adult drivers of electric scooters will be allowed to ride on the roadway. This will require a driver's license of any category and a protective helmet. At night, reflective elements must also be used.
"The main change is that electric scooters are prohibited from moving on sidewalks and pedestrian paths. At the same time, access to the roadway is allowed only for adult citizens who have a driver's license of any category and a protective helmet," emphasized Abdinur Tasybaev.
The new requirements also prohibit transporting passengers and cargo on electric scooters. When crossing a pedestrian crossing, the driver must dismount.
Rental electric scooters must be equipped with registration numbers and have mandatory insurance. Kick-sharing companies are obliged to control the technical condition of scooters, their speed, and location.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that over one weekend, Almaty police placed 298 electric scooters, three mopeds, one electric bicycle, and one motorcycle in impound lots. In the Zhetysu district of the city, 152 traffic violations were detected during this time, including those related to vehicle operation and passenger transportation.
