A newborn baby boy's body was found in a rubbish bin in Auburn, in Sydney's south-west, on Monday morning. New South Wales police are appealing for information to locate the baby's mother, expressing serious concerns for her welfare.
Emergency services were called to reports of a baby's body in a bin along Harrow Road in Auburn at 11:20 am. Officers from the Auburn Police Area Command attended and discovered the body of a newborn boy.
A crime scene has been established, and detectives have commenced an investigation. Police have stated they hold "serious concerns" for the mother's welfare and have urged her to attend the nearest hospital to receive urgent medical care.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who was in the area at the time and may have dashcam or mobile footage, is urged to contact Auburn Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Police were due to hold a press conference at 4 pm AEST.
