Almaty will host a charity evening featuring British musician Nick Hudson, known for his collaborations with members of Massive Attack, Mogwai, and Damo Suzuki of Can. The event will take place on September 12 at the DUMP bar-coffee house, where the artist will perform songs from his latest solo albums recorded in Tbilisi, as well as premiere material from his upcoming record Trees Reign Down, Fire On. His music is described as a blend of folk noir, author's song, and experimental music, reports infohub.kz.
In addition to the musical part, guests will enjoy a charity auction of contemporary art. Hudson himself, as well as Ilyas Actk Sarbekov, artists from the Repas team, Leonid Khan, Roman Zakharov, Askhat Akhmedyarov, Arystanbek Shalbayev, Meruert Kunakova, Aruzhan Zhumabek, and Aigerim Ospan have contributed their works for the auction.
All proceeds will be given to the family of Aidar Zhumadilov, who taught physical geography at the university for over 20 years. This winter he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. He now requires long-term antitumor therapy, and some of the expensive drugs are not provided by the state.
"The cost of treatment is about $75,000 (34 million tenge) per year — an amount the family cannot cover on their own. Aidar's son is our friend and a member of the DUMP team. So we decided to do what we do best: bring together people, music, and art, and turn one evening into real help," said the DUMP Coffee&Bar team.
The evening will start at 7:00 PM at Gogol Street 40, first floor of the ARTishok theater. Admission is free, and guests can make donations. A bar will be open throughout the evening.
