Kazakhstani track and field athlete Nora Jeruto won silver in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2026 Asian Games, infohub.kz reports.
Jeruto led from the opening meters and set a blistering pace. Bahrain's Winfred Yavi and India's Parul Chaudhary took up the challenge, and the three contested the medals down the home straight.
Yavi ultimately took gold in a Games record. Jeruto finished second with a season's best, while Chaudhary claimed bronze with a personal best.

In another final earlier today, Anastassiya Rypakova finished 13th in the long jump. The daughter of famed Olympic champion Olga Rypakova recorded 5.80 meters, 75 centimeters short of the winning mark.
The 20th Summer Asian Games officially opened on September 19 and will close on October 4. Athletes from 45 countries are competing for 460 medal sets. Kazakhstan's team at the 2026 Asian Games comprises 558 athletes in 35 sports.
On the first day of the Games, Kazakhstan won four gold medals. Cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko, as well as karatekas Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofia Berultseva, became champions. MMA fighter Yerkingali Burkutalin added a fifth gold to the team's tally, and his mixed martial arts teammate Kadyrbek Shynbayev made it six. On September 23, Lutsenko became a two-time champion of the 2026 Asian Games. The eighth gold came on September 24, when rowers Vladislav Yakovlev and Ivan Chernukhin won the men's coxless pairs. Yassmina Toksanbayeva claimed the ninth gold today in race walking. The tenth gold went to Kazakhstan's epee fencing team.
After seven days of competition, Kazakhstan stood fifth in the unofficial medal standings.
