North Korea's state television has suggested an unusual way to cope with the August heat: drinking a liter of beer. The advice came in a new segment on how to deal with summer heat on the state-run Korean Central Television (KCTV). This was reported by infohub.kz.

In the August 6 broadcast, a liter of beer was described as an effective drink to combat the heat. Viewers were also advised to follow the alcohol with water or weak tea. On screen, an official explained how to survive the heat while glasses of cold beer were shown. As a complement to the beer, crushed ice, fruit juice, and milk tea were also suggested.

However, there is no medical basis for this advice. As doctors note, alcohol has a diuretic effect and increases fluid loss from the body. In hot weather, this can raise the risk of dehydration rather than help cool down.

So a liter of cold beer in the August heat might look tempting, but it's definitely not something to rely on as a remedy for overheating.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that one of the most renowned North Korea researchers, Andrei Lankov, gave an interview in which he discussed life in the DPRK after the COVID-19 isolation, the country's relations with other states, and local culture. The expert also explained whether North Koreans know about Kazakhstan and how their daily life is organized.
