North Korea's Foreign Ministry has prepared a memorandum warning of a possible "horrible nuclear catastrophe" resulting from the actions of the United States, according to infohub.kz.
Pyongyang is convinced that the US nuclear buildup, along with its efforts to spread nuclear weapons and technology, has brought the international nuclear order to a state of complete destruction.
"If the US actions to vertically and horizontally spread nuclear technology continue to go unpunished, Pandora's box will be fully opened, and a horrible nuclear catastrophe will hang over humanity," the document says.
North Korea accused Washington of abandoning its nuclear disarmament obligations, expanding its own nuclear potential, and spreading nuclear technology among its allies.
"It should not be overlooked that the US is trying to draw its allies, including Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and Canada, into AUKUS in order to turn it into the world's largest nuclear submarine alliance in both name and substance," the Foreign Ministry said.
US approval of South Korea's possession of nuclear submarines, according to Pyongyang, is further proof of the spread of nuclear technology "along the AUKUS model" and adds a new factor of instability to the military and political situation in the Asia-Pacific region.
"The current geopolitical situation, in which the international nuclear order has been completely destroyed due to the rapid buildup of US nuclear forces and its blatant actions to spread nuclear technology, requires our state to play a more active role in protecting world peace and ensuring global strategic stability," North Korea said.
It is worth noting that North Korea's Defense Ministry recently threatened to invoke the "article of the law on the policy of state nuclear armed forces" in response to threats from the US and South Korea. After that, North Korea's missile forces tested a new type of weapon — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called the new development an "irresistible force."
And last week, North Korea condemned a statement by the US, Japan and South Korea on the denuclearization of the country and warned that its nuclear status would remain unshakable.
