New circumstances of the tragedy that occurred after a family gathering are emerging in the Mangystau Region: it has become known exactly where the fish that caused the fatal poisoning was purchased, reports infohub.kz.
According to Channel Seven, an investigation revealed that the family bought the fish from an individual — at an unidentified location right by the roadside during a trip to the Atyrau Region. The product was brought home and stored in a refrigerator.
Six people ate the fish during the family gathering, but five required hospitalization. As emphasized, sanitary-epidemiological service staff will not be able to determine what exactly was wrong with the fish, since no samples of the product remain.
The criminal case is currently being investigated under the article "Violation of sanitary rules or hygienic standards." Investigators will need to establish exactly where the family purchased the fish and who sold it.
It was previously reported that in the Mangystau Region, after a family gathering, three adults and one child — residents of Munaily District — were hospitalized in intensive care with signs of botulism. The suspected product is cold-smoked fish prepared at home. All the victims ate it during a family event on September 17, and the first symptoms appeared on the evening of September 18. The patients sought medical help on September 19.
Later it was reported that the boy remained in intensive care at the multidisciplinary children's hospital in Aktau. Doctors assessed his condition as serious and continued treatment. Soon it became known that the 9-year-old boy who had been admitted to intensive care after food poisoning died in Aktau. Then the Ministry of Health disclosed details of the child's death after the poisoning in Aktau.
