The specialized inter-district court in Shymkent continues the trial into the murder of 21-year-old Nurai Serikbai. At the latest hearing, the court examined a transcript of a phone call between the defendant, Sherkhan Aymakhan, and his father, as reported by infohub.kz.
Judge Sammidin Temirlaev read out the recording of the conversation from March 12, 2026. At the start of the call, the defendant said he could not hear well, and when asked how he was, he replied: "Everything is fine."
"Because of this, all work has stopped. How are we supposed to live now? What do you mean 'everything is fine'? You know that for what you did with your own hands, you will have to answer with your head. You have disgraced us all. I can no longer go to work—what am I to tell people? Do you understand what happened to that girl? She is someone's beloved daughter. We cannot even go out on the street in peace," the judge quoted Aymakhan's father as saying.
In response to all the questions and reproaches from his relatives, the defendant only kept repeating that he did not remember the details of what happened.
As a reminder, the tragedy occurred on January 11, 2026, in Shymkent. According to the investigation, Aymakhan, 28, who was previously acquainted with the girl, ambushed Serikbai near a store and inflicted several fatal knife wounds.
After committing the crime, the attacker tried to flee, but was soon detained about 10 km from the city and placed in a pre-trial detention center. The trial continues.
