A prosecutor in Shymkent detailed 35 stab wounds — nine penetrating and 24 incised — inflicted on Nurai Serikbay as the accused appeared in court for the first time today, according to infohub.kz.
Defendant Sherkhan Aymakhan, who missed the previous hearing due to illness, made his first personal appearance. During the preliminary hearing, state prosecutor Madiyar Abilkasymov read the indictment, which covered three separate incidents, each containing shocking details.
"The defendant approached a parking lot, took a black knife from his car and put it in his pocket. He then encountered the victim Serikbay, who had gone to a store, and suggested they go to the park. She refused, saying she was going home. At that point, Aymakhan formed the intent to kill. He waited for the right moment when Serikbay was walking between apartment buildings on Tolemetova Street, then pulled out the knife and stabbed her five to six times. Noticing a witness, he initially tried to flee, but changed his mind and decided to complete the crime: he returned to Nurai, who was lying on the ground, and in front of the witness inflicted a total of 35 stab wounds," prosecutor Abilkasymov read from the indictment.
According to the prosecutor, nine of the wounds were penetrating and 24 were incised. Nurai died at the scene from massive blood loss. The prosecutor also said that Aymakhan had been stalking the victim since October last year. He followed Serikbay until 10:50 a.m. that day, then left. From 7:26 p.m. on October 10 to 6:41 p.m. on October 11, he called her 70 times. After that, she changed her phone number. Unable to reach her, Aymakhan concluded she had gone to Almaty to continue her studies and went to the rental apartment where she had been living.
Judge Samidin Temiraliev ruled that the trial would not be streamed online to prevent witnesses from hearing each other's testimony. He scheduled the main trial for Sherkhan Aymakhan, charged under Part 1 of Article 125-1, Article 115-1, and Paragraph 5 of Part 2 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code, without a jury. The first hearing will take place on July 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of Shymkent. It was also stated in court that the suspect had previously kidnapped Nurai and threatened her. The judge said hearings would be held twice a week. At the next main hearing, witnesses to the incident will be questioned.
