Relatives of murdered Nuray Serikbay have explained why they demanded over 10 billion tenge in compensation for material damage and moral harm from the defendant, reports infohub.kz.
Sultan Serikbay, the brother of the deceased girl, clarified on his Instagram page that there are several reasons for this. "From a legal standpoint, the convicted party should not have any opportunity to avoid paying these funds or to benefit from parole, sentence reduction, or other ways of easing their punishment without having compensated for the damage caused. Therefore, the amount must be so significant that it would be impossible to simply pay it off and forget. So that the person, figuratively speaking, would be paying it for the rest of their life," said Sultan Serikbay.
He added that the family considers this amount fair and justified. "From a moral point of view, even if all the money in the world were collected and given to us, it could never compensate for the loss of Nuray. Because for us, the value of a human life is not measured in money. If we are destined to live our whole lives with the pain of losing Nuray, then we believe that the accused party should also bear their punishment and responsibility, including financial responsibility," added the brother of the deceased.
Sultan also stated that if they manage to recover moral compensation, the family plans to use the funds to help other girls who have faced stalking and cases of violence.
Recall that the tragedy occurred on January 11 in Shymkent. Sherkhan Aymakhan is on trial for murder, stalking, and coercion into marriage. The prosecutor read out the indictment with details of the crime. According to the investigation, Nuray Serikbay was inflicted 35 knife wounds.
