The title fight between undefeated Kazakh boxer Meiirim Nursultanov and WBC interim middleweight champion Jesus Ramos, scheduled for September 20, will not take place. The cancellation was caused by a sharp deterioration in the American athlete's health on the eve of the bout, infohub.kz reports.
According to BoxingScene, Ramos suffered from food poisoning. On Thursday evening the boxer felt unwell and was taken to a hospital in San Diego. He was discharged Friday morning, but the fight with Nursultanov was pulled from the card just before the weigh-in.
Premier Boxing Champions confirmed the bout will be rescheduled for a different date. A new date for the fight has not yet been announced.
Nursultanov was set to fight for the first time in nearly three years. The Kazakh last entered the ring in November 2023, when he defeated Chile's Julio Alamos by unanimous decision. The 33-year-old boxer remains undefeated in the professional ranks — 20 wins, 11 of them by knockout.
The fight with Ramos was to be Nursultanov's first opportunity to win a world title. At stake was the WBC interim middleweight belt held by the American. The WBC had also previously confirmed that the winner of this bout would earn the right to face the organization's full champion, Carlos Adames.
Ramos comes into the postponed fight with a record of 24 wins and one loss, with 19 of his bouts ending early. The American won the WBC interim belt in December 2025, defeating Shane Mosley Jr. by unanimous decision.
