According to the Bureau of National Statistics, prices for a number of socially significant food products fell over the past week. Cucumbers saw the biggest drop, decreasing by 4.3%, reports the website infohub.kz.
In addition to cucumbers, prices also fell for cabbage (1.5%), potatoes (1.4%), tomatoes (0.8%), and apples (0.7%). Chicken and onions dropped 0.4%, cottage cheese 0.3%, and rice, buckwheat, cheese, and salt each fell 0.1%.
Meanwhile, prices for chicken meat, milk, sour cream, butter, flour, and first-grade bread remained unchanged.
A decline in the overall price index for socially significant food products was recorded in several cities. The largest deflation — 0.4% — was seen in Konayev, Ust-Kamenogorsk, and Taldykorgan. In Aktobe, prices dropped 0.2%, while in Almaty, Aktau, Atyrau, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, Uralsk, and Turkestan, they fell 0.1%. In Astana, Zhezkazgan, Karaganda, Petropavlovsk, Semey, and Taraz, prices remained at the previous week's level.
Vegetables and grains remain the most affordable. The average price for cucumbers is 502 tenge per kg, with the lowest in Taraz at 339 tenge. Polished rice averaged 533 tenge per kg, cheapest in Kyzylorda (456 tenge) and Aktau (472 tenge). Potatoes averaged 283 tenge per kg, with the minimum in Turkestan at 218 tenge. A dozen first-category eggs averaged 564 tenge, with the lowest prices in Kyzylorda (464 tenge) and Uralsk (471 tenge). Beef with bones averaged 3,775 tenge per kg, and chicken meat 1,758 tenge per kg.
