In Malaysia, the rear suspension along with the wheels separated from the body of a Chinese Omoda 5 crossover while it was in motion. The incident occurred on October 6 in the city of Johor Bahru, according to CarNewsChina. Notably, in 2024, the rear beam of this Chery sub-brand model had already failed, but it is still unknown whether the two cases are connected, reports infohub.kz.

Photos published show the rear suspension, including the beam, control arms, shock absorbers, brake lines, and both wheels, lying behind the vehicle. The crossover came to a stop on the roadway near a shopping mall.

No injuries have been reported. Dents are visible on the right rear door, but it is unclear whether they are related to the suspension failure.

In April 2024, the rear beam of another Omoda 5 in the same country failed while driving. After that, Chery Auto Malaysia launched an inspection of 600 vehicles.

According to the company, the cause at that time was incorrect calibration of automatic welding equipment at a component supplier. After replacing the welding tip, the equipment was set up incorrectly, which could have made the seam on some rear beams insufficiently strong.

Potentially affected parts were those manufactured from August 14 to 17, 2023. Defective components were found in 60 crossovers.

It is unknown whether the new Omoda 5 underwent inspection as part of that campaign and when it was produced. Chery has also not reported the causes of the current incident, so it is too early to speak of a repeat of the previous defect.

Earlier, Kursiv Auto reported that prices for the Omoda C5 Plus had been announced in Kazakhstan.
