A new vehicle type approval has been issued in Kazakhstan for the Omoda C5 and C5 Plus crossovers, with the Plus version differing noticeably from the familiar model. As Kursiv Auto found, this is a vehicle with a different look, and Astana Motors appears to be preparing another version of the popular model for launch and localization, according to infohub.kz.
The current Omoda C5 seen on Kazakh roads looks familiar: a coupe-like body, a distinctive front end and fairly compact dimensions. The new C5 Plus has a different appearance and comes across as a fresher model.
According to the latest approval, the vehicle is 4545 mm long, 1824 mm wide and 1588 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2630 mm. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter TCI turbo engine producing 108 kW and 210 Nm of torque, paired with front-wheel drive.
Meanwhile, the official OMODA & JAECOO Kazakhstan website has already added the C5 PLUS to its lineup with a "Coming Soon" status.
The interior also differs noticeably from the current C5. The new model features a 15.6-inch central screen with 2K resolution, an 8.88-inch digital instrument panel and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 platform. It also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 50W wireless charging in the top version and a 540-degree surround-view system.
The Omoda C5 Plus gets a 6-speed dual-clutch robotized transmission, ECO and SPORT modes, and a set of electronic assistants. Depending on the trim, it will offer 17- or 18-inch wheels, four or six airbags, front-seat ventilation and dual-zone climate control.
According to official data, acceleration to 100 km/h takes 9.9 seconds, top speed is 180 km/h, and claimed fuel consumption is 7.3 liters per 100 km.
There is no exact sales launch date yet, but the C5 PLUS's appearance in the new Kazakh approval points to preparations for the local market.
Moreover, the manufacturer and applicant in the documents is Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan, indicating the model will be produced at the multi-brand plant in Almaty.
Earlier, Kursiv Auto reported that the Jaecoo J5 and J7 PHEV received approval for assembly in Almaty.
