Kazakhstan residents of retirement age will lose the ability to take out loans remotely. The new rules will also affect citizens under 21, reports infohub.kz.

As stated by National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov, elderly borrowers will now need to visit a bank branch in person to obtain a loan. This measure aims to combat phone and internet scammers who often force people to take out loans under pressure.

Bank employees will be required to carefully assess the situation. If there are signs that a person is acting on the instructions of third parties, is under psychological pressure, or cannot explain the purpose of the loan, the financial institution must refuse to grant the loan.

"The bank is obliged – it's not a question of 'may' or 'may not' – it is obliged not to issue the loan," Suleimenov emphasized.
