The editorial team of Kazakhstan's Orda.kz has announced that it will cease operations on September 1, 2026. From that date, no new publications will appear on the website or social media channels, according to infohub.kz.
The decision to close was made by the founder and first head of Ordamedia.kz LLP, Maksat Ganiyev. He cited the financial situation: the outlet's revenues are insufficient to continue operating.
"I summed up six years of my investments in Orda.kz and realized that I have no chance of turning the deepest minus into any kind of plus. Thank you to Anna Platonova and all current staff members for their work. We will settle with everyone in full. I am sure each of you will easily find a new job," Ganiyev wrote.
Ganiyev said he initially viewed Orda.kz as a business project. According to him, the outlet could earn money through transparent advertising contracts, but these revenues are only enough to "barely cover its costs."
"And I will return to my work. And I will absolutely never invest in media again," the founder concluded.
Orda.kz editor-in-chief Anna Platonova said the editorial team will continue to produce content until the end of August 31. From September 1, publications will cease.
The Orda.kz project was launched in 2020. Earlier, former editor-in-chief Gulnara Bazhenova was sentenced to eight years in prison with a two-year deferment.
