A social media user discovered an error in the Kazakh spelling of the phrase "final station" on a sign at the capital's LRT, reports infohub.kz.
The woman posted a video showing that instead of the word "бекет" (station), the sign reads "станса". As Kursiv LifeStyle learned, the reaction of commentators was mixed.
Some users sarcastically drew an analogy: "станса, палиса, администраса, кульминаса, ситуаса — Kazakh is a very easy language." These people consider such spelling a gross error and insist that the contractor must be held responsible.
However, another group of commentators recalled that each language adapts Latin words to its own rules. If Kazakh lacks the letter "ц", then the word is indeed pronounced as "станса". Still, if the word has a translation, it remains unclear why the sign displays this particular variant.
"Some words would be better not translated into Kazakh at all," "This word is not translated. 'Station' comes from Latin. In Kazakh and Russian it should sound like station. Although in English station comes from Latin statio. At least 'соңғы станциясы'," commentators note.
