In 2025, Otbasu Bank faced serious corruption violations among its employees. According to the bank's report, some employees received illegal remuneration for assisting clients, realtors, private bailiffs, and notaries, as well as for expediting housing queue advancement. This information came to light through an anti-corruption monitoring conducted at the bank, reports infohub.kz.
Additionally, a case was found where an employee of one branch produced forged income documents to confirm clients' creditworthiness and attached them to loan applications. Such actions are a direct violation of banking rules and legislation.
Due to loss of trust, the bank terminated employment contracts with all involved employees at the initiative of the employer. Statements were sent to law enforcement agencies regarding the identified facts, and pre-trial investigations are currently underway in several criminal cases.
Otbasu Bank emphasizes that it continues systematic work to combat corruption. Special policies and rules are in place for employees, and regular training and knowledge testing are conducted. In 2025, 1,183 consultants from the central office and branches, as well as 1,506 other employees, underwent anti-corruption training.
The bank also reminds employees of their obligation to report any known facts of corruption to management, the security service, or via the hotline. Personal responsibility is stipulated for concealing such information.
During 2025, the bank conducted thematic anti-corruption monitoring and internal analysis of corruption risks in the work of the Center for Providing First Housing. The check affected the processes of forming and maintaining the Unified Republican Electronic Database of those on the waiting list and the "Housing Provision Center" database.
Based on the analysis, the bank developed an action plan to eliminate the causes and conditions conducive to corruption violations. The report and action plan were sent to the Anti-Corruption Service and published on the bank's website.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Otbasu Bank simplified obtaining mortgages for old apartments.
