Azat Ashimov, director of Otbasy Bank, told a conference in Astana how owning a share in a property affects the decision to grant subsidized housing, infohub.kz reports.

According to him, the restriction on shares applies to those whose parents once received free housing from the state and whose children hold a share in that property. Ashimov explained why the decision was made to set such a limit.

"And in the end a decision was made that if a share (in this housing — editor's note) has been allocated and does not exceed 50%, they have the opportunity to join the housing queue. But at the same time we later encountered the following cases. We had citizens who owned three apartments, with a one-third share in each. That is, the decision on no more than 50% allowed them to register. Together with the Ministry of Industry, discussing and analyzing this situation, we introduced an amendment to the legislation that such a share must be in a single property," he said.

The speaker also cited a curious case from practice. "I'll share a little here — how we obtained the right to conduct an inventory (of the queue list — editor's note) without consent: we saw a citizen who held shares in 400 apartments. And he had previously not given consent to the inventory. But consequently, this provision in the law on shares will also make it possible to restrict, so to speak, such citizens from receiving support measures, because we must provide support measures to citizens who have no opportunity at all, or could not have had one, to obtain this housing," the speaker concluded.
