Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin has set another National Hockey League record previously held by Wayne Gretzky, infohub.kz reports.

In a regular-season game against the Seattle Kraken, the Russian forward scored a goal in the 17th minute. That goal was his 127th career goal in October NHL games, which he has played 199 of. Ovechkin thus surpassed the mark of Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who has 126 goals in 205 October games, and set a new league record.

Ovechkin had previously broken Gretzky's legendary record for most regular-season goals in NHL history, long considered "eternal."

In April of this year, Alexander became the top goal scorer in hockey history — at the time of the achievement, he had 1106 goals.

Recently, Alexander Ovechkin announced his retirement from the NHL: the current season will be his last.
