A car packed with explosives rammed into a roadside police post in Pakistan's Dera Ismail Khan district. At least 12 people were killed and another 30 wounded, according to Al Jazeera. The attack took place on September 26 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, infohub.kz reports.
Local police chief Safdar Baloch said the dead included police officers as well as customs and forestry department employees. Rescue workers took the injured to a hospital. The post was located near the village of Aman Mela, in the Darazinda area.
After the blast, witnesses heard gunfire. The Associated Press later reported that armed men opened fire on an ambulance carrying the wounded. One rescuer was killed and two others were injured. According to media reports, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Customs officers were on duty alongside police at the post: a large flow of goods between several Pakistani provinces passes through the district. Dera Ismail Khan also lies close to South Waziristan, where armed groups have carried out attacks for many years.
