The court hearing in Astana continues into the death of 20-year-old ambulance paramedic Uldana Myrzuan. At the latest session of the inter-district criminal court, prosecutors Nurdaulet Abuov and Sayazhan Serikova presented photographs of the scene and panoramic images from Google Maps to accurately establish the trajectory of the victims and the location where the cladding fell, reports infohub.kz.
One of the women who had called for the ambulance and whom paramedic Uldana Myrzuan had come to assist was questioned as a victim. According to her, she and her friend were entering through a passage from the courtyard to a store. The collapse of the facing bricks occurred twice.
"I thought she (the friend) had managed to get into the store. Then, as I was being dragged away, I saw part of a jacket under the rubble and a barely audible voice. She was completely buried, almost up to her neck. Passersby wanted to pull her out, but the woman shouted, 'Don't touch!' They slightly removed the bricks and left her lying until the ambulance arrived," the victim testified in court.
She also confirmed that during the second collapse, not only bricks fell from above, but also parts of the external air conditioning unit and metal structures.
Answering questions from the parties, the victim's side stated that they consider the direct fault of the management of the OSI (association of property owners) to be the lack of basic safety measures at the hazardous site.
"In the 5-6 months of operation, no inspection was carried out, the attitude was negligent. They could have at least closed this passage! Children constantly run through here to their karate class, there are many children passing by," the victim emotionally concluded.
The court proceedings and questioning of participants continue.
The tragedy occurred on November 8, 2025. The 23-year-old ambulance paramedic had arrived on a call in Astana when the brick facade and the air conditioner mounting collapsed onto her. Uldana sustained severe injuries and was hospitalized, but on November 18 she died. Shortly before the tragedy, Uldana had married Adilet Zeinel.
Later, Uldana's mother made a video address. She stated that her former son-in-law and his relatives had not maintained contact with the deceased's family.
It should be noted that the trial into the death of the 23-year-old ambulance paramedic Uldana Myrzuan has taken an unexpected turn. While the proceedings are underway inside the courthouse, dozens of chairpersons of Astana's property owners' associations (OSI) have gathered outside to support their colleague on trial and to highlight a systemic problem in the legislation.
