More than 269,000 passports and ID cards were issued to Kazakh citizens in June 2026 alone. Residents of Almaty led the surge, filing nearly 50,000 applications, according to infohub.kz.
The state corporation Government for Citizens attributed the spike to the holiday season. The top five regions by applications were: Almaty (49,923), Astana (28,661), Turkestan Region (22,764), Shymkent (21,074), and Almaty Region (15,454).
The agency reminds residents not to put off replacing documents until the last minute – applications can be submitted well in advance. Standard processing takes up to 15 business days for both ID cards and passports. An expedited service (1 to 7 days) is available for a fee, with cost varying by region.
