A woman in Pavlodar has been held accountable for years of evading child support payments for her three minor children. The accumulated debt has reached 6.936 million tenge, the website infohub.kz reports.

"Migration service officers managed to locate the debtor during operations to track down persons evading child support obligations or concealing sources of income," police in Pavlodar Region said.

According to police, the woman had not provided financial support to her children for several years, despite a court ruling ordering child support payments.

"An administrative protocol was drawn up against the mother for failure to comply with a court decision. The materials were sent to court, which sentenced her to 20 hours of community service and gave her three months to fulfill her child support obligations," the regional police department said.

The period granted is, in effect, an opportunity to remedy the situation without further escalation of liability. If the woman again evades the court decision and does not begin meeting her obligations, she could face criminal liability.

Police note that financial difficulties alone do not release parents from the duty to support their minor children. In cases of objective circumstances that prevent payment of the established amount, legal mechanisms must be used to change the amount or procedure of payments.

Law enforcement officials recommend that people in such situations promptly apply to a court or to bailiffs. This allows obligations to be settled officially and avoids further accumulation of debt and more serious consequences.
