Authorities in Pavlodar are investigating a criminal case over alleged fake billing for medical services under Kazakhstan's mandatory social health insurance (OSMS), the regional economic investigations department said, according to infohub.kz.

According to investigators, over two years a private clinic may have entered into its records OSMS services that were never actually provided or were registered without justification. The preliminary damage is estimated at more than 15 million tenge.

The department said it had uncovered records showing medical services provided to deceased citizens, gynecological services billed to men, and services to people not attached to the clinic.

"The criminal case is also examining the possible involvement of the medical organization's management and doctors. Investigators are currently reviewing data on numerous citizens who received medical services at this facility," the regional economic investigations department said.

The investigation is ongoing. The department said no suspects have yet been officially identified.
