A master class on laparoscopic hernia repair using the modern E-TEPP technique was held at Pavlodar City Hospital No. 1, according to infohub.kz.

Russian surgeon Vladislav Burdakov, head of the Center for Reconstructive Surgery of the Anterior Abdominal Wall at Voskresensk Hospital in the Moscow Region, performed demonstration operations and trained colleagues.

The E-TEPP method (Extended Totally Extraperitoneal Plasty) involves the procedure being performed through small punctures using a video camera and special instruments.

What are the advantages of the approach? Compared with open surgery, this method is less traumatic and less painful, and patients usually recover more easily afterward. However, the outcome still depends on the type of hernia and the patient's condition.

Specialists examined the use of minimally invasive technologies for inguinal, umbilical and postoperative ventral hernias. The latter occur in the area of a previous surgical incision.

Vladislav Burdakov is also involved in introducing robot-assisted operations. In 2024, a da Vinci robotic surgical system was installed at the hospital in his city. After that, the surgeon developed and introduced into clinical practice a robot-assisted approach to operations for complex hernias of the anterior abdominal wall.
