In the Abai region, a long-awaited meeting took place between an inmate and his five-year-old daughter, whom he had not seen for several years, reports infohub.kz.
According to the press service of the regional penal system department, a 45-year-old resident of Pavlodar was sentenced to seven years in prison for drug trafficking and possession. He was sent to a medium-security facility to serve his sentence. Thanks to his exemplary behavior, conscientious attitude to work, and compliance with regime requirements, he was later transferred to a minimum-security facility in the Abai region.
While at the minimum-security facility, the inmate was employed at one of the enterprises involved in city improvement. During a conversation with facility staff, he spoke about the difficult fate of his family and how he had long awaited a meeting with his daughter.
"Before imprisonment, I had a family - a wife and a little daughter. After my conviction, my wife filed for divorce and left our one-year-old daughter in the care of my mother. Due to health problems, my mother could not raise the child alone and was forced to place her granddaughter in an orphanage. Later, I learned that my daughter was diagnosed with a heart defect and needed treatment. When I arrived at the facility, the administration helped me find a job. With a steady salary, I sent almost all my earnings to my daughter for treatment. It was important for me to take care of her and help despite the distance. Now my daughter is five years old. All these years we kept in touch, often called each other, and counted the days until our meeting. And now that day has come. After a long separation, I was able to see my daughter, hug her, and be with her. This is a very important moment for me. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet her and hope that in the future I can be with my daughter and start a new life," the inmate shared.
"One of the important tasks of our work is to preserve and strengthen socially useful ties between inmates and their loved ones. In this case, employment allowed the man not only to acquire useful work skills and comply with the established order, but also to provide financial assistance to his daughter. We see how significant it was for him to be able to maintain contact with his child and wait for a personal meeting," noted Rustem Berlibekov, acting head of the facility.
