In Pavlodar, a man who fell into a pit of hot water has received compensation. The company 'Pavlodar Heat Networks' has accepted responsibility for the incident, reports infohub.kz.
The incident occurred when the man was walking with his four-year-old child. Suddenly, the sidewalk beneath him gave way, and he found himself in a pit of hot water.
The victim suffered burns to his legs, covering 7% of his body. He is currently hospitalized in moderate condition. The child was unharmed.
Heat network officials stated that the accident was caused by a rupture in the heating main. The section where the incident occurred had last been repaired 15 years ago. After the incident, the damage was fixed and the pit was filled with sand.
The company has paid compensation to the man, but the amount has not been disclosed. According to the director of the heat networks, the victim has no complaints against the company.
Meanwhile, the wear and tear of Pavlodar's heat networks reaches 87%. In summer, water at about 65 degrees Celsius flows through the pipes, while in winter temperatures can reach 110 degrees.
Anatoly Moisey, director of 'Pavlodar Heat Networks', stated that the company cannot check the condition of all underground pipes daily.
"Our heat network extends over 400 kilometers, including branches. To inspect all this pipe that lies underground... It is not in a channel where a maintenance worker can walk daily to check its condition and take action. No one can give guarantees here. We are currently carrying out all necessary work in this regard," Moisey said.
