A 62-year-old man has been sentenced in Pavlodar for the murder of a 72-year-old pensioner that occurred back in 2012. The crime was solved 14 years later, reports infohub.kz.

According to case materials, in 2012 the man was at the 'Yablonka' gardening community, where he met the elderly woman and asked to visit her. At the dacha house, they consumed alcohol together.

Afterwards, the perpetrator raped the pensioner twice and then strangled her to cover up the crime. The woman's body was discovered only several days later.

It took 14 years to establish the Pavlodar resident's involvement in the crime. The man did not deny his guilt in the murder.

He was released from criminal liability for rape due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. However, he faced punishment for the murder.

"By cumulative criminal offenses, through partial addition of the imposed sentences under this verdict and the verdict of the specialized inter-district court for criminal cases of Pavlodar region dated September 19, 2023, the final sentence is 20 years of imprisonment," announced judge Zhanna Nygybaeva.

The convict is already in a colony. In 2023, he was found guilty of murdering a 59-year-old acquaintance at the 'Stroitel' gardening community. According to investigators, during a conflict, the man wrapped a sweater around the woman's neck and strangled her.

The convict is now 62 years old.
