A mural featuring a portrait of Kazakh singer Batyrkhan Shukenov has appeared on the wall of a building in Pavlodar. The artist behind the work has shared details of how it was created, infohub.kz reports.

According to the Ertis television channel, local resident Natalya Koroleva spent a week creating the mural. The artist initially planned to work on a different wall in the city center, but could not reach an agreement with the building's owner. She then decided to choose a spot near her own home, where, she is confident, many people will see the work.

"At first we wanted to use another wall, which is much bigger and located in the city center. We couldn't come to an agreement with the owner there, so I decided to paint here near my home. It's an open space and a lot of people walk by. It definitely won't go unnoticed," the artist says.

The mural took a week to complete. The woman combined painting with her job, and the weather added to the difficulties. The hardest details, the artist admits, were the singer's eyes and smile. But residents have already appreciated the result: passersby are photographing themselves in front of the portrait and sharing the images on social media.

In the future, Natalya plans to decorate the city with portraits of other artists as well. But new works will have to wait until next year — with the onset of winter, painting outdoors becomes more difficult.
